Afoboogie bio:
"Nelson "Afroboogie" stands for quality underground sounds, we worked several times together and he`s always a sure crowd pleaser, it`s a pleasure to work with him, great DJ, great person to sum it up." TIMO MAAS
"Every time i play in Dubai, Nelson opens for me in great form. Always quality grooves from him"HERNAN CATTANEO
Nelson is probably one of the most high profile resident dj's in the world due to the position he holds at his weekly Peppermint Club in Dubai warming up for some of the world's biggest artists and holding his own resident night with his resident partner. He has received praise not only for his quality warm up sets but also for his big room sets that are filled with energy with his unique blend ranging from tech house to techno. Nelson always manages to read his crowds and deliver music that is cutting edge and entertaining at the same time.
During the last 15 years he has been responsible for his own rise in two different territories, something that very few can claim to have achieved. From being a headliner in his native South Africa to an even higher level at the moment in Dubai which is currently one of the favourite destinations for DJ's to play and where on a weekly basis you will find huge names behind the decks. Peppermint Club is the biggest club night in the region and judging by their weekly line up you can understand why. They could host Carl Cox, Paul van Dyk & Steve Lawler all in the same month.
Playing in front of a weekly crowd to an average of 1500+ and having played for up to 20000 back in South Africa, he is not scared of any size crowd, he takes it all in and releases his energy onto everyone else. Nelson has packed his record bag for destinations including gigs in Miami (WMC 2007, 2008), London (AKA), Lisbon (Queens), Moscow, St Petersburg, Belgium (Cafe d Anvers), Beirut, Shanghai and now Dubai.
The start of his career in 1989, saw him playing all night sets in Johannesburg’s clubs and later partly responsible for the start and rise of the early raves he swiftly became a respected name in the country’s club circles. A 5yr residency at ESP in Jo’burg, made Sunday afternoons at the infamous club unforgettable as did his own Friday club night, Flyhouse which rated one of the best nights out during its four years. With a gig schedule taking him to all corners of the country he established himself as a confident DJ, playing major events like Ministry of Sound, ICE, Cream, Womad, Amnesia and Pacha tours, sometimes with audiences of up to 20 000 people. He was also the DJ who initiated and started the release of dj mix compilations of which he mixed nine albums himself.
His Afroboogie Recordings label has been an avenue for some of his music, exposing himself and other artists internationally. The releases have been supported by the likes of Steve Lawler, Danny Tenaglia, Deep Dish, Tom Stephan, Jorge Jaramillo, Steve Porter, Eddie Amador, Oscar G, Saeed & Palash, René Amesz, Chus & Ceballos to name few.
Media exposure has also been received with reputable music magazines, TV and general press surrounding releases or appearances. From FHM to DJ Mag, IDJ, BPM, Play, Infusion and various newspaper publications worldwide. He was noted as "One to watch in 2008" by IDJ Magazine (September 07)
DJ SUPPORT FOR: Erick Morillo, Sasha, John Digweed, Sander Kleinenberg, Hernan Cattaneo, Carl Cox, Lee Burridge, Steve Lawler, Satoshi Tommie, Roger Sanchez, Jr Sanchez, Layo and Bushwacka, Mr C, Tim Deluxe, Nick Warren, Faithless, Orbital and many more! Events: Ministry of Sound, Pacha, Cream, Womad, Mother, ICE, Freedom Festivals, even playing diverse sets supporting bands like the Violent Femmes. and many more!
